About the Author
Ian H Chivers is a private consultant and grass breeder/seed producer based in Melbourne, Victoria, Australia. He has worked in many parts of the world with both the cool season and warm season grasses. His particular expertise is in breeding and selection programmes for the less-well known grasses. This has led to the commercialisation of several species previously unknown for turf use. Within those species his work has led to the development of several varieties. Ian is currently a Board member of the International Turfgrass Society, a contributor to several references and commonly seen as a conference speaker.

David E Aldous is a Principal Lecturer in the Department of Resource Management, Forestry and Amenity Horticulture, Institute of Land and Food Resources, The University of Melbourne-Burnley Campus. He is a Fellow of Parks and Leisure Australia, and is a member of the Australian Society of Horticultural Science, the International Society for Horticultural Science, and the International Turfgrass Society. In 1998 he was installed as the World President, of the International Federation of Park and Recreation Administration (IFPRA).

Alpha Tips

I read this book over a couple of days and i got a lot from it. The introduction which covers the evolution of alpha males within the animal kingdom provides good grounding and context for the remainder of the book. It demonstrates that females seeking the alpha male is natural and occurs within all animals. It explains those alpha traits that human women search for in men, something which other books similar to this have not touched on.

Of course, finally the book describes how you can become the alpha male by obtaining these alpha traits which women find attractive. There are eight in total included.

This is not a typical pick up book. I've read a few of those and many of them focus on using techniques to get women to like you. This book instead focuses on the reader. No tricks! For that reason, I give it a 5 star!

A Fresh Approach

I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not a book about being a "player" and on how to pick up women. Instead, the book focuses on the reader and helping him to become the best possible person he can be. When you achieve this then you won't really need pick up lines because you'll find all types of people naturally gravitating to you anyway. The book covers a range of areas in order to help men become highly attractive and confident.

Good material, but the book is not necessary

I have read all but one of Charlie Valentino's books. I have found most of them to be very good. However, I cannot say the same for this one. For the positives: Charlie takes a different approach to being an "Alpha Male." He basically says that the best way to be an alpha male is to be the best person you can be. He goes over things such as physical attraction, confidence, ambition, social proof, etc. The content itself is good and I think it has merit.

Now for the negatives (and the reason i am giving it 3 stars): He takes WAY TOO MUCH material from his other books. I would say that somewhere between 65-75% of the book is taken from his other books (mostly from his book on confidence). Honestly, he could have integrated the novel material here with the confidence book and created one book. It almost feels like he made this one because he was a little greedy. This is a little disappointing because I honestly really like his other books.

All in all, I do agree with his overall approach to defining what an alpha male is. However, I honestly think the creation of the book was totally unnecessary. He could have just integrated the novel material here with the confidence book and created one book. I think it is just better to buy his book on confidence. Most of the book derives from that and you will get the same message that he is trying to convey with this book.

A MUST READ for anyone interested in early ufology and The Philadelphia Experiment.

What an amazing introduction to the sad death of one of the early pioneers of ufology. This book in no way claims to answer what exactly was the cause of Dr. Jessup's death. It touches upon The Philadelphia Experiment, Carlos Allende, and UFO'S and the moon (which today is only beginning to be researched in full). This book was an introduction for me in regards to Dr. Jessup and all the great books he wrote. All of which I have since tracked down, read and been amazed by. It further spurred me on to investigate his death and The Philadelphia Experiment. I had heard of The Philadelphia Experiment before reading this book, but never truly investigated the matter beyond watching the movie. Dr. Jessup through his research into UFOs had many ideas that would later be popularized by others such as Erich von Daniken. This book along with The Jessup Dimension by Anna Genzlinger, Hoax by P.J. Dowers (if you can find it) and The Philadelphia Experiment by Charles Berlitz are all great readings in regards to Dr. M. K. Jessup. This IS an amazing and interesting but sad event. Was Dr. Jessup murdered or did he commit suicide? We may never know the truth, but I am thankful for Dr. Jessup's writings and the world he opened for me. Many of his ideas are only today being proven. The copy I speak of is an earlier edition. This newer edition is even better because it contains supplemental information not available before.

"Most people who knew Dr. Jessup refused to believe that he had committed suicide, a most natural reaction in that the professor had, in his contacts with them, given no indications of depression or of having troubles": so declares Gray Barker in the introduction to his third book.

Two short articles by Jessup are included: UFOs and the Moon (later expanded in his book The Expanding Case for the UFO) and Motive Power of the UFO. A small amount of correspondence to Barker and Meade Layne of the BSRF is included, in which Jessup reveals his interest in the reported mediumship of Mark Probert and his reported spirit contacts.

Barker is indebted to Riley Crabb from the Borderland Sciences Research Foundation for the preface to the Annotated Edition of Jessup's The Case for the UFO, which is reprinted in this book. Barker states that the Navy gave one of 25 copies of the Varo edition to Jessup and Jessup gave his copy to Crabb. The Allende letters are also included. Barker states that Carlos Allende had been living with an elderly couple in a farmhouse. Someone had gone to visit Allende there, but the place had been stripped of all furniture and was deserted. Barker: "If the Allende Letters had been authentic in that they contained solid information, it seems that those who 'knew too much' were soon disposed of. Did Jessup also 'know too much'???????????"

It is a short book and unfortunately there is nothing on the opinions of those who knew Jessup. Barker states that Ivan Sanderson remained tight-lipped on the matter. Instead, space is taken up with reports of a seance to contact the spirit of Jessup. Barker later published a more interesting follow-up, The Jessup Dimension.

A good analysis of the contradictions surrounding the death of Dr. Jessup. I doubt we will ever know the truth, but this book provides both sides of the controversy; whether it was suicide or foul play. The book also gets into other aspects of the Jessup legacy such as UFO's and the Philadelphia experiment. An interesting read but not the final analysis.

Awesome!

Once you start reading FAE HUNTER, you won't be able to put it down. The action starts on the first page and never lets up for the entire book. Just when you think you can take a deep breath and maybe even put the book down for the evening, a new twist erupts that makes you keep reading for one more chapter and one more chapter and one more chapter...

Valora Delos is a compelling heroine who springs to life as a real person and takes the reader along on her complicated emotional journey of hope, disappointment, betrayal, trust and love as she battles to save her world and the people she cares about. I became completely involved with her, felt all her emotions with her. (I won't say what emotions and when they happened as I don't want to spoil any of the plot!)

I first read this book as a copyeditor and approached it from a purely technical standpoint. However, I was immediately hooked and had to keep reminding myself to be an objective editor rather than a captivated reader. Everything about this book is awesome...the story, the characters, the writing, the created world. I will be waiting...along with everybody else who reads this book...for the second in the series.

This First Book was Great and Got The Series Off With A Bang

After reading Fae Hunter (Soulstealer Trilogy #1) and then the novella Mane Attraction (A Soulstealer Novella (Book #1.5)) (which should NOT be skipped) Fae Guardian (Soulstealer Trilogy #2) was a "must-buy" since the story was enjoyable, passionate and at times a bit tragic but the heroine Valora just keeps on ticking. This story was as enthralling and full of twists and turns and for a series starter it was exceptional but in Fae Guardian (Soulstealer Trilogy #2) it takes a bit darker turn and much to my dismay the author has once again inserted Aric back into the fray and then to lessen my enjoyment even more added a lot of angst and even a M�nage � trois which did nothing for my enjoyment of this book, but the story is so addicting I only dropped my rating about half a star. Obviously, those things won't bother other readers so adjust as you see fit. I should mention that the events at the end of book 1 are not totally as they seemed :) The series has about a 4.5/5 rating overall, the first book is exceptional, without the novella I think I would have been a bit lost about the Mane/Kit relationship while Fae Guardian (Soulstealer Trilogy #2) added tons to the story also added things I could have done without but I will still be waiting eagerly for the final book. This series is a keeper but be aware it gets a bit more erotic as the series progresses.

Valora Delos has a chip on her shoulder, but she handles it in a good way. She tries to prove that she is just as good as any of the other fae out there. When a blight strikes the land of Dell'Aria, draining the magic of its people and eventually killing them, Valora quickly joins the Hunters. The Hunters are a team of Fae dedicated to tracking down those responsible for releasing the blight on their land, the Soulstealers.

Valora has always had a cruch on King Aric, so when he asks her to take on a special mission to Earth, normally a forbidden realm, to track down a Soulstealer that he believes will have the answers to it all, she jumps at the chance to prove herself to him. Little does she know that this one mission will turn several worlds upside down.

On Earth, she meets Dooley, a very woodsy and down to earth guy that seems to have a strange pull on her. This is where I thought the steamy stuff was going to start - but I was wrong. It got close - and I'm not going to tell with who - but then it just seemed to taper off before it was able to really get started.

The longer Valora spends on Earth, the more confused she becomes, and I did right along with her. I wasn't sure which guy I should be cheering for, who the Soulstealer was, or if Valora would even be able to figure it out. The characters she meets along the way, both from Earth and Dell'Aria, were fantastic, but seemed to muddle things further by putting their own opinions out there trying to influence Valora's opinions.

For hard core romance fans, this will be too tame for you. For those of you looking for something a little more wild that a typica urban fantasy or paranormal fantasy book, this would be just right. The heat is there, it's just not there all the time.

I am a somewhat judgmental and stubborn Democrat, but alas I picked up this book. It had me literally laughing out loud and was a wealth of information and facts. It is rare to read something so thought-provoking. Cupp and Joshpe clearly did their homework and did it well. I hope this gets the attention it "rightfully" deserves.

The Right Stuff

As someone who resents the intense polarization and "us-versus-them" mentality in American politics over the past 20 years, I found this book to be a surprisingly refreshing take on some common misconceptions about Republicans. I know too many people who are quick to reflexively attach "labels" to Republicans or Democrats, conservatives or liberals, without having the facts to support their arguments. I didn't think that a book with this subject matter could have me chuckling the whole way through, but it did. I'm betting that it's going to change some skeptical minds. At the very least, it'll improve the "quality" of political debates in coffeeshops across America by injecting more factual accuracy into the mix.

Like the authors of the book,I am a conservative living in New York. I find myself facing the many challenges that are expressed in each chapter. The book wittily addresses each stereo-type. Even if you disagree with right winged political beliefs- this book will make you laugh and maybe even remind you of somebody you know.

This is a great read for anybody and I recommend it to all!

wonderful, quirky little book

I found this to be one of the oddest, yet at the same time readable and enjoyable novels that I have ever come across. I never was sure whether to take it seriously or as a spoof. It has extended passages of truly heartfelt pathos, interspersed with other passages that read more like a 19th century Russian version of a Saturday Night Live skit. It is still a mystery to me just what the author intended. And yet strangely enough, that is also the book's strength. I think this is because the lives of the book's characters are so incredibly banal (with the exception of Anninka's), that this story could not possibly sustain interest without the tension between these two seemingly opposite points of view. For, yes, this story does grab you as a reader and pull you along, even though you keep asking yourself why? (And what better mark could there be of great literature?) This is definitely thumbs up material. Read it.

Footnote: I did not read this version, but the version recently put out by NYRB Classics. Which seems to be no longer listed by Amazon, though in fact I purchased it through Amazon not too long ago. Must be part of the new book wars that I just read about in the New York Times.
