Not a good book for a health economics course - students will surmise that health economics is just too difficult

The book covers quite a bit of ground in health economics. The chapters mix theory and reporting of recent empirical studies. Many important concepts and details are covered.

As an introduction to health economics, used for example for an MHA or MBA course, it is just too difficult for most students. Unless the student has just had a micro course they will struggle. Even so, some new charts and concepts not typically in an intro micro course will prove difficult. Some concepts, particularly graphs, are poorly explained.

Perhaps the worst part is that beyond the first few chapters the homework becomes almost impossible for students to do on the basis of the material provided in the text content. Some exam questions in the testbank just have wrong or impossible to find answers. For example, the text mentions one noteworthy study by two economists but does not give precise results data. One of the test questions asks about the precise results data. After poring over the chapter in vain for the answer, a student finally mentioned that he was able to find the data --- in the original journal article available through Pubmed. Do the professors expect students to find answers by looking up and reading all articles mentioned, referenced, or summarized? Absurd and poor quality control. A student could waste an hour searching in vain the text for that answer.

I do not recommend professors using this book Use Santerre et al. Use the new Bhattacharya book. Etc.

Decent for a policy course, a bit lacking for an Econs course

We're using this book for an upper-div Economics course, and I felt the text was a bit too high-level (as someone else mentioned) for use in an Econs course, in the sense that it's light on mathematical application and heavier on verbosity. The book seems to try to appeal to both those studying policy, while at the same time trying to appeal to those studying Economics, and I don't personally like the style. The book does assume a little basic familiarity with economists' tools and shows models, but for the most part I felt that it was just much too high-level and verbose and targeted more toward those studying the "policyer"-side of things. The result is that as someone studying Economics, I find myself a little put off by the super brief treatment of applying models and the paragraphs upon paragraphs of text. On the other side, I could see how those without much/any knowledge of economics could become confused, although I think they do a decent job of covering the basics concisely from the ground up without weighing down the text too much.

I will say that it does discuss relevant topics, and I've learned a lot of things I never knew, and am able to think about the economic side of health care in ways I never did before. I think the book could be great under the right circumstances. But chances are if you're using this for an upper-division Economics course, the problems you will solve for homework and on exams will likely cover the topics in a more advanced fashion, and the book doesn't provide enough mathematical examples and tools for that. So pray your professor distributes slides or lecture notes....mine doesn't.

This book is written at a very high level and requires extensive knowledge of economics to understand. Make sure if your professor is using this they are thorough or you will get lost.

Invaluable Wisdom

I LOVE this seminar. I originally saw it on PBS. Dr. Northrup has made me fall in love with my body, even those "naughty bits". I've never considered doing some of the things she suggests, like actually looking at my body, but my body will last me a lifetime so why not "see" who's with me all the time. Being an OBGYN I really appreciate the knowledge she provides. It's interesting that when you fall in love with life, the people around you respond. She talks about erectile dysfunctional mates actually being able to perform, but it applies to other people and things as well, as she points out. This lecture was very informative and I look forward to reading her books, even the Secret Pleasures of Menopause, even though I'm not in that age demographic. I know there will be other things that she can teach me in that book. I look forward to a pleasurable pre- and post- menopausal life.

My clients who are Spanish-speaking appreciate having this book in the waiting room. It is full of sound nutritional advice and explains many health conditions better than I can. Many of them have thanked me for it. I have an English version at home.

Good advice in any language

Sent this to a couple folks in Mexico that could not easily buy it there (Amazon is not as good there as here) and they have loved it and benefited from its use. I have had several issues of this in English. Always end up giving it away and have to buy another. Great book as a reference to healthy living. It is a really good companion to Johnny Bowden's books such as 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth.

Buen vademecum sobre remedios naturopaticos pero pésima traducción al castellano. Ya se podían haber esforzado más en traducir al español una obra tan completa. Es una vergüenza que haya tantas palabras en inglés. Quizás se pueda resolver en ediciones posteriores pero parace que no hay voluntad de hacerlo.

The chapter on canning offers information on high- and low-acid canning as well as the differences between water-bath versus pressure canning, with detail on proper use of jars, lids, and bands, selection of the right utensils, instructions for filling the jars, and safe storage. excellent for beginners

I recieved this bood as a gift and it is very well written and concise. It is a basic book, so if you are an experienced canner it may be to light for you. If you are a beginner the detailed instructions and information how and why things are done is excellent. I would reccomend this book for any beginner.

This is a really great book. I have not tried anything yet at the time i am writing this, but everything seems well written & detailed. If you have Ball's Canning Book this will give you some more options and expand on those recipes.

I was really looking for something with more recipes. This is more a step by step canning manual with a few recipes. I think I would return it if I could but I purchased it on my kindle.

Niki Lee does a great job of not only documenting her personal journey via music but also documents brilliantly how others have enjoyed music along their own journeys.

My husband likes Green Day, but really isn't what you could consider a "Huge Fan" - he hasn't been able to put the book down... Like he said, Niki's story is fascinating and it's great to read how AMAZING Green Day band members are to their fans.

I think anyone, not just Green Day fans, would enjoy this book that celebrates music and life!!
