About the Author
Zulma Iguina is a former senior lecturer in Spanish at Cornell University. Her academic background is in linguistics and literature, and she taught Spanish language at Cornell for more than 30 years. She worked intensively with novice teacher development while serving as coordinator for the elementary level, Spanish 121-122 for over a decade. She is the recipient of a Clark Award for Distinguished Teaching.

Eleanor Dozier is a former senior lecturer in Spanish at Cornell University. Her undergraduate and first graduate work were conducted at the University of Arizona, where she studied French and Spanish literature. She continued her doctoral studies at Cornell University and remains All But Dissertation in French literature. She taught French language for 12 years, and taught the Spanish language for 30 years. She served as the faculty fellow for the Language House in Spanish for several years, and for the academic year 1998-1999 co-directed the Cornell-Michigan-Penn Program in Seville. Dozier also has served as associate chair for Language Instruction for the Department of Romance Studies since the fall of 2000.

Pretty good.

First, I want to say, if your teacher allows different years of this book, you might want to buy the year that the book is written in a back and forth English and Spanish way, not completely Spanish like this one. It just makes it a little hard to understand the explanations.

Also, some things are just stated, and not explained at all. I have gone through almost five complete chapters so far, and I repeatedly have found myself asking why? Or wishing for examples at least.

Very practical guide to starting without religious or Indian jargon

I got this book initially from the public library. I was so impressed that I sought to buy it for my personal library. All I could find was out of print used copies. When it arrived I was satisfied. Condition was very good, though the paper was a bit aging (it is a cheaper stock to begin with). Several years later I now see Ian Gawler has published a new edition, I think it has a slightly different title. Since the subject should not change much, I would highly recommend either book over most of the others out there regarding meditation. This one is very practical and to the point. He does not bog you down with chapters on various religious traditions and exotic sounding Indan terminology. In fact he says that people put too much into the process. It really is much more intuitive and easy to put yourself into a state of relaxation than most people realize. In fact he says that by trying too hard, you defeat the process of relaxing.

PREFACE

Why $2,000 Per Month and Not More, or Less?

I settled on this amount because I believe it’s totally achievable within three to six months if you’re constantly producing, as my numbers will show. I earned almost $2,000 within the first couple of months that I started writing romance regularly. I had seven titles out, which included the one I’d written in May of last year (2013). I published six short novels between March and April of this year (2014), which is one reason my income exploded so quickly, in my opinion.

And this is with practically no marketing; no name recognition as a romance writer; and again no experience writing in this genre before May of 2013. This is very important to keep in mind.

With this type of output (I didn’t say it was gonna be easy, just very possible), if you’re writing good stories in a popular genre, I’d say you can duplicate my success. And the reason I know this is that I’ve read at least 20 or 30 stories on the web of new romance writers who’ve done the same thing – most earning much more than I have.

I like to give people totally reachable goals though. That’s why I’m not promising that you’re going to become rich writing romance. It’s possible, but it’s not a claim I can make because I haven’t done it (yet!).

I can only tell you what’s worked for me. Which is why what I will say is that I think earning $2,000 to $3,000 per month writing romance is very possible within six months – if you constantly put out new titles (eg, one a week; minimally two to three per month) and follow some of the marketing advice discussed within – which is very minimal.

So much better than similar guides, sincere and helpful info from an author who has had success

This is a great guide for writers of short or long romance or erotica. I was fortunate enough to read it with my Kindle Unlimited subscription when it was available there. However, I do feel it is worth the asking price. Much better than the shorter ebooks on writing short romantic or erotic fiction out there. Thanks to Yuwanda for a helpful guide that truly puts the reader (aspiring author) first.

A Quick Start Guide To Writing Fiction

I found this book to be a good guide to writing fiction quickly- especially if you don't have experience. Her advice refers to romance (because it is the highest selling genre) but it applies to non romance work as well. The link to the thread about the high earning author in erotica was extremely helpful! I read the entire thread. As someone new to self-publishing, it was a great supplement to the advice Black gives.

The Table of Contents tells you exactly what you'll be reading in this book but I'll go into a little more detail. She posts some screen shots and a lot of sales numbers. She shows you sales numbers from her first book, increased sales from her first and second book, and sales from her highest performing title. She provides links to other helpful resources which led me down a wonderful rabbit hole of research on self -publishing.

She clearly states that she will not tell you how to write romance but provide you with a few tips about linking characters between books and outlining your book. From what I've researched, there is no one way to write romance.

Overall, it is a great guide if you want to get started today. I hope to update Ms. Black in the future of my own success based on her advice.

Tips and Realistic Expectations

Very informative! I'm in the process of writing my first Romance novel right now, and I was looking for tips and realistic expectations. I don't know how you write novels so fast though! Oh my Goodness, I'm hoping for maybe one every other month at the rate I'm going. This book was very helpful. I hope I can be similarly successful. Thank you.
